Terms & Deposit Policy

These terms apply to table reservations made directly with The Candover (website, phone, email or in person). By making a reservation you agree to the terms below.

1. Booking Scope & Definitions

“Standard Bookings” are reservations for up to 8 guests. “Group Bookings” are reservations for 9+ guests, private dining and special event dates (e.g., Christmas, New Year’s Eve).

2. Holding Deposits & Card Guarantees

  • We may request a holding deposit of £20 per person (or a card guarantee) for Group Bookings, peak dates and special events. The exact amount will be shown at the time of booking.

  • For card guarantees, no payment is taken at the time of booking. Your card is securely stored by our PCI‑compliant provider and may be charged under the cancellation/no‑show terms below.

  • For deposits, payment is taken at the time of booking and is deducted from your final bill on the day if you attend as booked.

3. Cancellations, Amendments & No‑Shows

  • You may cancel or amend Standard Bookings up to 48 hours before your reservation time without charge; deposits will be returned and card guarantees will not be charged.

  • For Group Bookings and special events, the free‑cancellation window is 336 hours unless otherwise stated in the event details.

  • Late cancellations (inside the windows above) and no‑shows may result in your deposit being retained or your card being charged £20 per person (or the balance of any set menu agreed).

  • Partial attendance: if fewer guests arrive than booked without prior notice by the cutoff time, we may retain/charge the per‑person amount for absent guests.

  • Management discretion: we’ll always try to help if plans change unexpectedly, but changes are at the discretion of management, who reserve the right to refuse amendments and apply the policy in full.

4. Running Late

We hold tables for 15 minutes past your booking time. If you’re running late, please call us; otherwise your table may be released and deposits/charges may apply.

5. Time at Table

To help us manage service, table durations apply. You can see this in advance in your booking confirmation. Changes are at the discretion of management, who reserve the right to refuse amendments and apply the Policy in full.

6. Pre‑Orders & Set Menus (Groups/Events)

Where a set menu or pre‑order is agreed, final choices and guest numbers are due by the date given at the time of booking -unless otherwise stated.

7. Allergies & Dietary Requirements

Please tell us about allergies or dietary needs in advance. We handle allergens with care, but our kitchen uses all major allergens; cross‑contamination risk cannot be eliminated.

8. Children, Dogs & House Rules

Children are welcome; high chairs/space permitting. Well‑behaved dogs are welcome in designated areas (please check when booking). Please respect other guests and our team; we may refuse service for disruptive behaviour.

9. Outdoor Tables & Weather

Outdoor seating is weather‑dependent and cannot always be guaranteed. We’ll do our best to accommodate, but deposits/guarantees may still apply if we cannot reseat you indoors at your chosen time.

10. Service Charge & Pricing

A discretionary service charge of 12.5% may be added to bills. Prices and menus are subject to change and include VAT unless stated.

11. Cakes, Corkage & Special Items

With prior agreement you may bring a celebration cake; a plating/serving fee of £6 per person may apply. Corkage is available by prior arrangement at £30 per 750ml bottle unless otherwise agreed.

12. Data & Security

Card details are processed and stored by our PCI‑compliant payment partner. We do not store full card numbers. See our Privacy Policy for details.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force at the time of booking applies to your reservation.
